The Night I Ate the Beans and Still Felt Broken

Dinner was chickpeas and rice. I read somewhere that beans are good for cholesterol, for blood sugar, for the planet. I measured out the portion, checked the label twice, and sat down alone at the table. I should have felt proud—choosing the "right" food, doing what the studies say.
