Why I Counted Every Almond

Dinner tonight: a handful of almonds, some wilted spinach, and a single square of dark chocolate. I tell myself it’s about health—longevity, antioxidants, whatever the article said. But really, it’s about control. I used to read lists of “superfoods” and think maybe if I ate just right, I’d finally feel okay in my skin. Instead, every meal became a test. Did I pick the right foods? Did I eat too much? The scale never said thank you. Sometimes I wonder if I even like these foods, or if I just like the feeling of being “good.” I know the nutrients.
