The Day Temples Didn’t Save Me

A year ago, I stood in Madurai, sweat sticking my shirt to my back, staring up at the temple towers. Everyone around me seemed to be having a spiritual moment. I was just tired. I wanted to feel something—anything—besides the ache in my feet and the low-grade homesickness I’d been carrying for weeks. I took photos I never posted. I tried to pray, but the words felt thin. Travel’s supposed to crack you open. Sometimes it just leaves you standing in a crowd, more aware than ever of how far you are from home, and how little that changes what you carry inside. #Travel #TravelConfessions #NotAlwaysTransformed
