I moved into my grandmother's house three months ago and I'm torn about this cabinet. I'm usually all about modern, clean lines, white everything. But this piece has so much history. My grandmother kept her good china up top and photo albums in the bottom drawers. I remember being little, watching her unlock it to pull out pictures wrapped in tissue paper. Every scratch tells a story — there's a nick where my dad crashed his toy truck, a water ring from grandpa's coffee mug. I keep going back and forth. Part of me wants to paint it white to match the renovation I'm planning. I even found gorgeous chalk paint samples from a woman who restores vintage furniture and runs her own shop. Her work is beautiful. But every time I look at it, I hear grandma's voice: “Some things are meant to stay as they are, sweetheart.” So I'm stuck. Do I honor the history and keep it original, even though it doesn't match my style? Or make it my own and risk losing something irreplaceable? What would you do? Credit - marta hanger
