Weekend Outing with the Kids - The Basic Bird Parrot Shop on Berkeley University

Big thanks to my buddy @FivemeterCandyBar for recommending the classic pet parrot store Basic Bird on Berkeley University Road, the kids absolutely loved it! The store may be small, but it has a great variety of parrots, all priced very reasonably! If you're interested in owning a parrot, you should definitely check this place out. Besides birds, they've got all the supplies you need ! ✅ My daughter loved the blue bird in the first picture, she named it Blueberry 🫐 ✅ My son fell for the green bird in the second picture, he named it Avocado 🥑 ✅ I personally loved the colorful bird in the third picture, I named it Skittles 🌈 Well, our family streak runs true, we can't help but name our pets after food ! 📍 Your Basic Bird 2940 College Ave, Berkeley, CA 94705 #WeekendOuting #Kids #BasicBirdParrotShop #BerkeleyUniversity #PetParrots #FamilyFun #BirdLovers #BerkeleyCA

How I Outread My Nephew—Or Tried To! 📚🔥

Every summer, I find myself locked in a legendary reading duel with my nieces and nephews. The stakes? My dignity, a clean house, and—let’s be honest—a chance to be pelted with water guns or serve as their butler for a day. They hype each other up, and the trash talk echoes through June like a war drum. But this year, my 7-year-old nephew is reading circles around us all! He devours books like the first Harry Potter and Narnia, yet his maturity lags behind his reading prowess. So, how do I keep things fair and thrilling? Should I give him bonus points for tackling thicker tomes? Or is there a hidden trove of age-appropriate, advanced reads I’ve missed? I’m torn—do I risk introducing him to heavier themes, or do I handicap myself and let him run wild? Fellow book warriors, what would you do? Drop your favorite book recs and challenge tweaks below. Maybe you’ll even catch me slipping up—go ahead, call me out! 😂 Let’s make this summer’s reading battle one for the ages! #ReadingChallenge #BookRecommendations #FamilyFun #Education

Why Every Family Needs a Yes Day—Our Unforgettable Experience

Have you ever tried a Yes Day with your kids? Last weekend, we decided to say "yes" to (almost) everything our children requested, and it turned into one of our most memorable family days ever. From pancake breakfasts for dinner to backyard camping and silly dance parties, we laughed, connected, and let go of our usual routines. Watching my kids light up with each new adventure reminded me how important it is to let go and just enjoy the moment together. Yes Day isn’t just about saying yes—it’s about building trust, creating memories, and showing our kids that their ideas matter. Would you ever try a Yes Day in your family? did my kid just create the wildest garden bouquet ever or what

So today my 8-year-old decided to raid our backyard. He grabbed scissors and started snipping daffodils, random twigs, and even some weird grass. Next thing I know, he’s got this wild, totally unique bouquet. I was shocked at how cool it looked! Letting kids loose in the garden is the best way to get them curious about plants. I always tell him to look for different shapes and colors, not just the prettiest flowers. He gets creative, and our garden gets a little wilder every time. Plus, it’s a fun way to teach him about nature without making it a lesson. If you want your garden to surprise you, let your kids take the lead sometimes. You never know what they’ll come up with! #gardeningwithkids #familyfun #naturecrafts #Gardening

Our Build-A-Bear Birthday Bash: A Heartwarming Update

We just wrapped up our Build-A-Bear birthday party, and I can’t stop smiling thinking about the joy on everyone’s faces! Watching the kids choose their furry friends, stuff them with love, and pick out tiny outfits was pure magic. The best part? Each child left with a bear that truly reflected their personality, making the memories even more special. As a parent, seeing their creativity and excitement reminded me how important it is to celebrate milestones in meaningful ways. If you’re considering a Build-A-Bear party, I highly recommend it—it’s an experience your family will cherish! Have you ever hosted or attended a themed birthday party? did my preschooler just create a secret flower jungle in our yard?

I handed my 4-year-old a packet of flower seeds and turned my back for five minutes. Next thing I know, there are seeds everywhere—on the lawn, in the sandbox, even in the cracks of the sidewalk. Turns out, letting kids go wild with planting is a recipe for surprises. Now, every morning is a scavenger hunt to see where something new is sprouting. I learned that mixing a few seeds with sand helps spread them out, but honestly, the chaos is half the fun. Watering together has become our little routine, and we laugh every time a random flower pops up in a weird spot. Gardening with kids isn’t about perfect rows—it’s about letting curiosity take root and watching what happens. #gardeningwithkids #flowerpower #familyfun #parenting #outdooradventures #Gardening

why does planting tomatoes with a toddler feel like winning the lottery?

Dirt everywhere, tiny hands digging, and not a single straight row in sight. Our backyard isn’t fancy, but my daughter and I are obsessed with our first garden. She picks the seeds, I try to remember which ones we planted where. Sometimes we water the weeds by accident, but hey, they look happy too. We laugh at our crooked carrots and celebrate every sprout like it’s a miracle. I learned fast—let her do the watering, even if it means puddles. Turns out, letting go of perfection makes the whole thing more fun. If you’re starting out, don’t stress about the mess. The best part is watching her face light up when something green pops out of the dirt. That’s the real win. #gardeningwithkids #familyfun #growyourown #parenting #outdooradventures #Gardening
