The Day I Almost Turned Back
I stood at the base of those cables, palms sweating, pretending I wasn’t stalling. You don’t fly across the world just to chicken out at the last stretch, right? But the truth is, I was terrified. Not of falling—of failing, of admitting I wasn’t as brave as I wanted to be.
Everyone posts the summit photo. No one talks about the part where you freeze, halfway up, wondering if you’re just another tourist with more ambition than sense. I made it, but not because I was fearless. I just couldn’t face going home with a story that ended at the bottom.
Sometimes, the hardest part isn’t the climb. It’s admitting you’re scared, and doing it anyway.
