Within a couple of days after Nana went missing, we started seeing vultures around our cul-de-sac. That’s not something we normally have here, and the timing has made it incredibly hard not to assume the worst. I want to sincerely thank everyone who helped look for her. More than anything, I wish she would find her way back home, but I’ve also had to face the possibility that she may not be earthside anymore. Not being able to bring her home or even know for certain what happened is a kind of grief that sits heavy and unresolved. Ive looked in my neighbors backyards, holding onto hope that I could at least get closure, and be able to bring her back and bury her, but I don’t know if there is anything left to find Nana was a stray who chose us, and she was so gentle with my children even when most cats wouldn't have been. The truth is, outdoor cats often live much shorter lives, 2-5 years vs the 15-20 that house cats get. I would never choose to put a cat outside and risk that kind of life for them. Nana’s situation was different, She came from the outside world and wouldnt have accepted living indoors full-time no matter what I did. and that's the heartbreaking reality of loving an outdoor cat. 💔
