The unknown scrape, the car was driven away at that time, how should it be judged?
I received a call from the traffic police this morning, saying I had scraped someone’s car and fled the scene. I immediately thought about the square I went to on Saturday. When I was driving at low speed onto a service road, an Audi that was parked illegally suddenly started moving and nearly scraped my car. At the time, I didn’t hear any scraping sound, so I assumed there was no collision and drove away.
Who knew that this morning I received a call from the traffic police asking me to drive back to my hometown to handle the accident. I drove all the way back home and arrived by noon, and we had an appointment with the traffic police at 2:30. However, the officer handling the case didn’t show up until 3:00 (looked like he had just woken up, which I totally understand).
After reviewing the other party’s dashcam footage, it was clear that the scrape happened because she suddenly started moving and didn’t see my car. The officer then asked the other party to leave and spoke with me alone. He told me that because I drove away without stopping, I was fully at fault, regardless of where the other car was parked or whether she had started moving suddenly. If I disagreed, the case would go to assessment, and the car would be left with the traffic police for 30 working days before a result would be issued. Even with the process, I would still be judged fully at fault.
The damage to the other car was as shown in the pictures, and they demanded 3000. I didn’t agree, and after some mediation from the traffic police, I ended up giving them 1500.
I feel so wronged. Clearly, she was illegally parked and didn’t check her surroundings before moving. Just because I unknowingly drove off at the time, does that mean everything is my fault?
