I moved to the area by chance a few years ago, thinking it would be temporary. In the meantime, I’m still here. I’ve been shocked by the poverty in Richmond County all this time. For a short while, I worked for the Augusta National Golf Club, I saw how the wealthy think, and I was shocked by the cruelty and arrogance of the employees, as if they weren’t just as unfortunate as the rest of us. And I came to a conclusion: all the money the wealthy spend during the tournaments goes toward the membership fees of this exclusive club, and nothing goes to the local government. The original vision of the person who created this golf course was clear: he would build something grand for the elite of society, right in the heart of the Deep South, as a defiance toward the poor.
