$39/lb Grouper? 3 Ways I’m Cutting My Seafood Bill

Watching the price tags on Florida seafood lately is just wild. Grouper at $39/lb, flounder at $25+, even dolphin fish (yeah, mahi) is pushing $20/lb. Used to be able to grab a few fillets without thinking twice, but now it’s almost like buying steak. To keep eating fish 3-5 times a week without draining the bank, I’ve had to get creative. First, I check out the frozen section—sometimes the same fish, just flash-frozen, is half the price of the fresh stuff. Second, I’m hitting up local markets right before closing. A lot of times, they’ll mark down whatever hasn’t sold. Third, I’m buying whole fish when I can and learning to fillet it myself. It’s a bit more work, but the savings add up fast. Not every meal needs to be a big fillet either. I’m making more chowders, fish cakes, and tacos—stretching a pound into a few meals. Seafood’s still expensive, but there are ways to keep it on the table without feeling like you’re splurging every night. #Food knowledge #SeafoodPrices #BudgetCooking #FloridaEats
