Why I’m Breaking Up With Open Kitchens

Every new home seems to come with an open kitchen, but as someone who loves to cook real meals, I just can’t get behind the trend. Imagine: you’re browning meat with cumin and garlic, and suddenly your entire living room smells like dinner—so do your curtains, your coat, and even your dog’s bed. It’s cozy for about five minutes, but after you eat, it’s just overwhelming. And the noise! The kitchen hood, sizzling pans, and boiling pots drown out any hope of a peaceful movie night. If you’re like me and sometimes leave dishes for later, there’s no hiding the mess—your guests are stuck staring at your chaos while you play games. Honestly, I’d trade the whole ‘entertaining while cooking’ thing for a door I can close. No wonder luxury homes now have separate chef’s kitchens! Has anyone found a real solution to these problems, or are we all just pretending open kitchens are perfect? #HomeDesign #KitchenProblems #CookingLife #InteriorTrends #RealTalk #Food
