where’s the best spot for a romantic norcal escape?

Last weekend, my partner and I started planning a romantic getaway in Northern California. We want something a little fancy—think plush beds, beautiful views, and food that’s actually worth the calories. I’m a sucker for bold red wines, so a good winery nearby is a must. But here’s the thing: every place we look at either has amazing wine but boring food, or the hotel looks dreamy but is miles from anything interesting. Napa seems obvious, but is it really worth the hype (and the price tag)? Or is Sonoma the real hidden gem? And don’t even get me started on trying to find a spot that feels special but isn’t swarming with tourists. I just want a place where we can relax, eat well, sip some great reds, and maybe do something fun together that isn’t just another wine tour. Has anyone actually found that perfect balance, or is it all just clever marketing? Sometimes I feel like these places look better on Instagram than in real life.
