I (50f) just spent two months across the country caring for my aunt in hospice. I was her only family, and it made me realize how alone some of us truly are. My husband is ten years older, and we have no children or close relatives. If I outlive him, who will be there for me when I can’t care for myself? The thought of ending up in an understaffed Medicare facility terrifies me. I’m not part of a religious community, so I can’t rely on church support. What do people like us do to avoid neglect in our final years? I’d love to hear your thoughts or experiences.
