why does my grandpa think his crepe myrtle is the eighth wonder?

My grandpa’s convinced his crepe myrtle could win a beauty contest. Every summer, he drags me outside to admire the pink blooms. He swears the secret is chatting with the plant while watering it—like, actual conversations. I started doing it too, just for laughs, but now my crepe myrtle’s looking pretty amazing. We also mulch around the base to keep the roots cool and toss in some slow-release fertilizer when the buds show up.
