Why Does My Cat Sunbathe Like This?

So apparently, my cat has decided that the heat lamp in his enclosure is not for warming his body, but for toasting just his tail. Every time I check on him, he’s lying there with his entire body in the shade, but his tail is sticking out, basking in the full glow like it’s on vacation in the Bahamas. I’ve tried moving him, adjusting the lamp, even showing him how the rest of his body could enjoy the warmth. Nope. Tail only. It’s like he read the manual for being a pet and decided to do the exact opposite. Anyone else’s pet have a weird relationship with their heat source? Or is my cat just a trendsetter in the world of feline spa treatments?
