Why Am I the Target When Others Block the Left Lane?

Driving home after Thanksgiving, I ran into the same frustrating situation twice: someone was crawling in the left lane, and instead of waiting, the car behind them swung over and started tailgating me in the right lane. I had my cruise set at 75, just trying to keep things smooth, but suddenly I was the bad guy for no reason.
