finding cheap summer flights: myth or real deal?

I’ve been trying to plan a trip back to Germany this summer to see my family, and let me tell you, the ticket prices are making my head spin. I remember hearing from friends that airlines sometimes drop their prices for just a day or two, almost like a flash sale. Last year, I missed out on a deal by just a few hours and ended up paying way more than I wanted. This time, I’ve been checking American Airlines and a couple of other sites almost every day, but the prices just seem to keep climbing.
