The operator is responsible for checking his vehicle never trust anyone else. I’d have never excepted lousy workmen ship ever. Fire that employee he’ll only screw up again and someone might die.

DOT says to check your truck every 100 miles. I don't know of anyone that does that, but yes, the driver is responsible.

In all the years of driving OTR and now retired I've never ever seen one driver get out a torque wrench and retorque his wheels at any breaks ever! The only time was when the truck was in the shop for a PM. In fact I've never seen a DOT trooper go around and check to see if the wheels are at the proper torque. Only if there's missing lug nuts on loose ones if noticeable that is. Yes, it's the drivers responsibility to make sure that they're on the wheels but torqued? Nobody carries a torque wrench that I've ever seen.
