Why Don’t We Use Breathalyzers More Often in the US?

I’ve watched countless cop shows where officers pull someone over and ask them to walk a straight line or do other field sobriety tests. It always looks dramatic, but I wonder—why not just use a breathalyzer from the start? In my travels abroad, I’ve seen police use portable breath testing devices at random checkpoints, which seems quicker and more accurate.
