hiking with kids in flagstaff and sedona: any hidden gems?

We’re packing up for a family trip to Flagstaff and Sedona, and I’m trying to find hikes that will keep everyone happy. My two boys, ages 10 and 8, are all about clambering over rocks and getting their hands dirty, while I just want to soak in some beautiful views (and maybe snap a few photos to show off later). Last time we tried a so-called “easy” trail, it turned out to be a flat, dusty path with nothing but cactus and a few lizards—my kids were bored out of their minds, and I was secretly wishing for a little more drama in the landscape. We don’t mind a bit of a challenge, but I’d rather not end up on a trail where I’m carrying a tired kid back to the car. Are there any trails around Flagstaff or Sedona that have a good mix of scenery and fun rock scrambles for the kids? I keep hearing about Cathedral Rock, but I’m worried it might be too crowded or tough for the younger one. And is it just me, or do all the “family-friendly” hikes end up being either too easy or secretly a nightmare? I’d love to hear about any hidden gems or even places to avoid—sometimes the most popular spots are popular for all the wrong reasons! #FamilyHiking #SedonaAdventures #FlagstaffTrails #Travel
