We have a 16-year-old son who’s been dating his 15-year-old girlfriend for a while now. Since they live a bit apart, they’re always looking for ways to spend more time together. We agreed to let them hang out for a full day, but now our son is pushing hard for her to stay the night. He insists that all his friends’ parents allow this and says we can trust him. The catch is, he wants them to sleep in the same room, which makes us uneasy. Last year, we allowed her to stay over, but at the time, our son told us they were just friends. We later found out that wasn’t true. Now, we’re torn—are we being too strict, or is this a reasonable boundary? Would love to hear how other families handle situations like this!
