Ever feel like you’re stuck between your partner and your kids, playing referee instead of enjoying family time? That’s my life right now. My partner of six years has two older kids, and I have three daughters—9, 13, and 16. We don’t live together, and honestly, I’m starting to think that’s for the best. Whenever he visits, the air gets thick with tension. His jokes, meant to be funny, are full of sarcasm and little digs. The problem? My girls aren’t laughing—they’re rolling their eyes and drifting further away from him. I’ve tried talking to him, explaining that his style with his own kids just doesn’t work here. But old habits die hard, and the sarcasm keeps slipping out. Now, I dread his visits when my kids are home. I’m left wondering if this is how it’s always going to be.
