Is Fighting for Time Off Worth Losing My Job Over?

Every year, like clockwork, I find myself in the same exhausting battle: trying to book a simple holiday at work. I'm good at my job, and honestly, I don't ask for much. But when it comes to taking time off—my own earned time off—it's like pulling teeth. The seniors always swoop in early, snatching up the best dates with their TOIL, and the rest of us are left scrambling. This year, I couldn't even get my birthday off, despite putting in my request ages ago. Now I have 169 hours of unused holiday, and it looks like I'll be forced to cram it all into March again. Is it really too much to want a break on my anniversary or my partner's birthday? I'm tired of the endless HR runaround. Has anyone else been through this? Is quitting over this even reasonable?
