Beauty That Left Me Numb in My Own Country

I grew up with the Alps as my backyard. Swiss postcards? I barely noticed them. But standing in Lauterbrunnen, I felt something snap—like the landscape was too much for my senses, too perfect to process. It wasn’t awe. It was a kind of vertigo, realizing I’d spent years numb to what people cross continents to see. Everyone talks about feeling small in nature. I just felt exposed. Like the valley was holding up a mirror, asking why I’d never let myself be moved before. Maybe it’s easier to marvel at beauty when it’s not supposed to be yours. I took a photo. I never posted it. Still haven’t. #HomeButStrange #TravelConfessions #UnpostedMoments #Travel
