The Week I Tried to Outrun Myself

Everyone says Kauai’s north shore is paradise. They’re not wrong. But I spent most of my week trying to convince myself I was living my best life, even as I stared at perfect sunsets feeling weirdly hollow. I hiked through mud, got sand in places sand shouldn’t go, ate fruit that tasted like actual sun. I kept waiting for the magic to hit—some switch to flip. Instead, I just felt like a tourist in my own head, watching someone else’s highlight reel. Maybe the real confession is: no place, no matter how beautiful, can fix the ache you bring with you.
