Are GCSEs Ruining School for Teens?

Why are we still making 16-year-olds take GCSEs when most of Europe ditched this ages ago? Not only do these exams cost a fortune, but the grading system guarantees a chunk of kids will feel like failures—just because of a bell curve! Plus, with everyone staying in school until 18 now, do we really need this stressful rite of passage at 16?
