Is PTO Just a Myth in My Job?

Lately, I’m starting to wonder if paid time off is just a fairy tale where I work. I’m in a specialized field role, and every time I ask for a day off—even with a month’s notice—I get told it’s not possible because everything is always urgent. Twice now, my PTO requests have been denied, and it’s wearing me down. It’s gotten to the point where I can’t even find time to interview for other jobs, let alone recharge. I feel like I’m stuck in a loop where my needs never come first, and honestly, it’s making me question my future here. Has anyone else been through this? How did you handle it?
