Sunsets Don’t Fix Homesickness

Halfway up to Piazzale Michelangelo, I ducked into the Rose Garden because I needed a break from pretending to be amazed. Florence is supposed to be magic, right? But the garden was empty, and the sunset was just a slow fade behind the city. I took a hundred photos I’ll never post. Everyone says you’ll find yourself while traveling, but all I found was how much I missed feeling known. The view was beautiful, but it didn’t fill the quiet.
