Bend, Oregon: The Silence After the Hype

Everyone told me Bend was where you go to feel alive—mountains, breweries, rivers, the works. But after the first hike, the first pint, the first photo I almost posted, I felt this weird emptiness. Like I’d checked all the boxes but left something behind in the process. I wandered downtown, watched locals laugh over coffee, and realized I was just passing through their lives, not living my own. It’s not Bend’s fault. It’s the ache of arriving somewhere beautiful and realizing you’re still carrying the same old weight. Sometimes the view is stunning, but you’re not ready to see it.
