Next time you get a chance to see it, look a little closer. Instead of 'Pennsylvania,' it says 'Pensylvania.' How did this even happen?

Pennsylvania was originally spelled with one "n" as "Pensylvania". This spelling was common at the time of the state's founding and was used in official documents like the U.S. Constitution and on the Liberty Bell. It wasn't considered a misspelling at the time, but rather an accepted alternative.

At the time the bell was made there was no standard for the spelling of Pennsylvania. Both spellings were acceptable in the 1700’s

at the time it wasn't a mispelling, Pensylvania was even used on the signature page of the Constitution.

Terrible headline…there was/is no “mistake”. It’s also spelled with just one in the constitution…

I know why its "misspelled", but I'm just going to sit back and watch the uneducated comments roll by me like clouds. 😏
