There's a spelling mistake on the Liberty Bell

Pennsylvania was originally spelled with one "n" as "Pensylvania". This spelling was common at the time of the state's founding and was used in official documents like the U.S. Constitution and on the Liberty Bell. It wasn't considered a misspelling at the time, but rather an accepted alternative.

At the time the bell was made there was no standard for the spelling of Pennsylvania. Both spellings were acceptable in the 1700’s

at the time it wasn't a mispelling, Pensylvania was even used on the signature page of the Constitution.

how sure are we that they weren't correct and we weren't taught wrongly all these years. after all, they were here first.

Terrible headline…there was/is no “mistake”. It’s also spelled with just one in the constitution…
