Long weekends are perfect for exploring California, and this time I hit up Morro Bay, located in Central California. The place might be small, but it offered a unique experience. 🐳Morro Rock First thing was being up close and personal with Morro Rock—it was like a mound of stones piled up together. Noticed a lot of folks heading towards the beach, and so, curiosity got the better of me and I followed. Upon reaching, a crowd was cheering and clapping looking at the ocean—turned out, you could spot whales here! Quick to get my camera out, managed to capture some moments of whales breaching the ocean surface. 🦪Tognazzini's Dockside Restaurant Feeling peckish, we found a nearby seafood place and ordered half a dozen raw oysters, a scallop skewer, and a BBQ skewer. The oysters were delicious and fresh with a hint of salt, even though the shucking was a bit rough leaving some shell fragments. Amazing view too—you could see the Morro Rock standing tall in the sea. To add to the atmosphere, there was a live band playing and a few patrons dancing away. 🪨Morro Rock Beach Made it to the beach just before sundown to catch the majestic view of Morro Rock at a distance, reminded me of Canon Beach somehow. The waves crashing onto the shore at high tide caused the seagulls to fly around, giving me a great cover shot. I reckon it's worth checking out during foggy days or at dusk. 🐡Yamato Japanese Restaurant 1741 W Grand Ave, Grover Beach, CA 93433 We were headed further south afterwards, so we found this sushi restaurant on our path. Absolutely loved the sea urchin! Big portions and so fresh—tasted better than any sea urchin I've had before! Wasn’t impressed with the oysters though. We had enjoyed them at lunch and tried to order them here but they only had the ones from Washington left which were disappointingly small. Other sushi was average and the desserts a bit on the sweet side. Spending a leisurely day in this cozy coastal town isn't a bad choice~ #MorroBayCA #CoastalRocks #WhaleWatching #SeaUrchin #MorroRock #TognazzinisDocksideRestaurant #MorroRockBeach #YamatoJapaneseRestaurant
