#CoolingStation #HeatRelief #Phoenix #Water #Solutions As temperatures soar into the triple digits, the City of Phoenix is stepping up to protect its residents by partnering with Lyft to provide free rides to cooling stations throughout the city. While this life-saving program has flown under the radar until now, it's very real and it's designed to help prevent heat-related illness and death during Arizona’s brutal summers. To request a free ride, simply call 2-1-1 and listen for the transportation option (previously option 4 - this may have changed). You don’t need to be outside in the heat to qualify. If your home doesn’t have air conditioning, or it isn’t working well, or if you just need a safe place to cool down and grab a cold drink, you’re eligible. When you call, you’ll be asked for basic information such as your name, date of birth, and pickup address. You may be asked if you need medical attention - just let them know you’re hot and in need of water. Within minutes, a Lyft driver in an air-conditioned vehicle will arrive and take you to the nearest city-run cooling center. These locations offer free air-conditioned space, cold water, snacks, pet supplies (including dog booties to protect paws from hot pavement), charging stations, yoga mats for rest, and even a TV to help pass the time. When you’re ready to leave, you can call 2-1-1 again and request a return ride to your original pickup spot.
