I’m honestly at a loss and need some advice. I was hired as a manager at a restaurant in Ohio, and after just two weeks, I was hospitalized with serious health issues. I had to have my spleen, gall bladder, and half my pancreas removed due to bilateral pleural effusion. The restaurant assured me they’d support me through my recovery. After a month in the hospital, I was finally ready to return. On my first day back, I asked my boss for a day off because my power had been shut off and I needed to be home to get it turned back on. Instead of understanding, my boss told me we needed to part ways. I’m so confused and hurt—why keep me on the books through my illness just to fire me when I’m ready to work again?
