Mulch Volcanoes Are Tree Killers?!

Did you know piling mulch up against a tree (aka a 'mulch volcano') can actually kill it? Someone posted a pic of a tree in their park with a huge mound of mulch at its base, and certified arborists jumped in to warn: that’s way worse than bad trimming. Too much mulch suffocates roots, invites disease, and attracts pests. The right way? Keep mulch 2-3 inches deep, away from the trunk, and spread out to the drip line.
