as a child I recall many many fireflies in my backyard me and my sister would go and catch them in the mason jar and put a little stick in there and recreate their natural habitat but I also remember when they started spraying to kill mosquitoes and that's when I really remember the decline of seeing so many fireflies in in Mobile Alabama I have no factual evidence but I just feel like the mosquito man that comes around and sprays to kill the mosquito larva I think that has some kind of direct impact on the fireflies
