I met my sweet girl Polly when I started to work at a retail store. She was very timid as she had recently lost her mom and litter mates to animal control. She would come to the store and the employees would put her water and food down. However, she would not come near anyone and would eat and drink whenever the person walked away. I began feeding her and would talk to her but for a few days she did the same to me. Then one day I was putting her food out and she came beside me and nudged my leg but the minute I went to pet her she bolted. I continued feeding her each day and then a couple of days after she let me pet her. I had just recently gotten a small dog so I hadn't planned on taking her in. A few days later I was sitting outside the store and this sweet pup came and put her head on my shoulder and let me love on her, it made my heart melt for her. I didn't think my husband would let me keep her forever, but I brought her into my home as a foster to get her off the streets and find her a forever family. I was a little worried that I would bring her in the house and she would hurt my smaller dog or my cat, since I hadn't seen her around other animals to know what her reaction would be. The day I brought her home, I put a collar and leash on her with no struggles and she climbed right into the car like she already knew she was going home. When we brought her in the house, I kept her leashed as I introduced her to my then shy and skittish smaller dog, Roscoe and the cat, Mango. It went pretty smooth with them, so I let her off the leash and boy the playing began. Roscoe was a little nervous at first but soon the chase was on. After Polly had been with us a couple of days, we saw how loving Polly could be and how much of a positive addition she was for Roscoe, my husband told me, "she's no longer a foster". Today Polly and Roscoe are almost inseparable. Oh and Mango the cat? They snuggle together. I love my furry babies.
