Vascular Dementia: What You Need to Know

Ever heard of vascular dementia? It’s not just Alzheimer’s with a different name. Dr. Kelynn Lee broke it down: it’s the second most common dementia, usually caused by strokes or damaged blood vessels in the brain. Diabetes, high blood pressure, and even obesity can up your risk. Early signs? Slower thinking, confusion, mood swings, and trouble planning. There’s no cure yet, but meds and lifestyle changes can help slow things down. And it’s not just an old person thing—people under 65 can get it too! #Health #BodyHealth #VascularDementia

My mother-in-law has it. She lives with us now (2 years!), but every day is a nightmare as she has no concept of time, can’t drive, and is a hazard to herself. We have to give her only one days worth of pills or she would forget to take what she needs, or take several days at once because she’d forget she’d taken them. We learn every day, but I feel for my husband because it hurts him most to see her as such a shell of who she was. 😟
