Power outages across Puerto Rico have gotten longer and more frequent lately, and it’s not just bad luck. LUMA Energy says the real problem is years of underfunding by PREPA, which left critical projects without the money they need. In fact, LUMA had to shift a quarter of its workforce away from fixing outages just to keep up with federally funded upgrades. Now, LUMA is pushing for the biggest investment in decades to finally stabilize the grid. Without it, we could be looking at up to seven outages a year, each lasting nearly a full day.
