I can’t have an MRI due to spinal cord stimulator in my back. My Dr’s don’t like it because I can only get CT Scans with or without contrast. They say I should get it replaced with the ones that MRI compatible but it is working fine and the insurance company won’t cover it to have it replaced. Wasn’t the CT scan used before MRI’s? If so why do doctors prefer the MRI over the CT Scan.

sometimes it's the wire leads that used to be inserted that are not compatible. Therefore iv can not have mri even though crtd is compatable.

There is no radiation with MRI. I don't think the surgical tools will be useful while an mri is in use. Using ultrasound also has no radiation and is used during biopsies.
