Walmart waste more food than anyone in the world

here's a scenario and yes it happens your walking in the isles and then you notice a steak someone decided they didn't want or any perishable food for that mater its waste no good people don't care but you keep blaming walmart

When anything is perishable such as meat or dairy when a customer decides at checkout they don't want it, it can't be sold or given away due to possible spoilage while in customer cart. I know because I work there

most of those decisions are the result of lawsuits. I knew a bakery that dropped off unsold pastry at a homeless shelter at the end of every day. One day, a man choked on a piece of doughnut and filed a lawsuit. No more free pastry was ever delivered. Most grocery chain have similar stories and will ever destroy food headed for their dumpsters because they have been successfully sued by dumpster divers.

Some times pet food companies have contracts to pick up expired meat from grocery stores but that is not all stores. Either way most grocery stores keep expired cold stuff in the back in their walk in coolers and freezers. Produce is put in a special composting dumpster that is taken away on a regular basis that eventually shows up in the spring some place ad bags if dirt. Many stores try to recycle as much as possible. A good team of employees and managers try to judge the ordering so their running out the same day the delivery trucks are bring new to keep waste down to maximize profits. No profit means no job. Having said all that it is not unusual towards the end of the day to see a dozen carts full of fresh food gone to waste because a customer didn’t want something and just laid it up on a shelf some place. In that case even if it is still cold health depart says get rid of it can not be sold to the public
