Southwest's Bag Fee Backfire: What Travelers Need to Know

2 free bags was the biggest attraction for me to fly SWA. With the bag fee, I do not think I will be flying SWA anymore unless I do not have a choice

Get over it. Bag fees won't go away.

if both my husband and myself check a bag each, we would end up paying 180.00 round trip for luggage fees. We are packing in one suitcase and I'll go to laundromat middle of time away. I'm not paying 180.00 for luggage.

Southwest was my favorite airline. Now they are no different than any other. I’ll shop around.

SW is aligning with all the other airlines so they are not a standout or better than. If I fly SW I will cram everything into a carryon and ask for help putting it in the overhead. I can’t lift above my head I’m sad SW is making changes that affect my choices. I have flown SW for years. Also I’m the last year I have had two delays. Before I had one in 15 years. Sad a new CEO/president is making a great company worse.

If you’re gonna pay a bag fee you might as well as well have a better experience and fly Delta.

If they were smart, they would charge premium for carry-ons and nothing for check bags. As several people said there’s more carry-ons coming on then check bags.

first of all they They could have placated everyone by saying only one free bag and if you want two free bags then you buy a little more upgraded fare and that includes like a cocktail or something They would have satisfied the flying public while making a few extra bucks

So let me get this straight… folks are upset that Southwest is charging for bags yet other airlines have always been raking in baggage fees and now it’s a problem Southwest is charging??? I’m glad they are finally making folks that whine about everything pay up with their overweight multiple bags. The playing field is now level. Gone are the days of abusing the luggage and preboard perks that have made it impossible to get a window seat.

I am not sure why people are attacking folks for their opinion of the changes. People have a right to disagree with the changes. I love SW and will continue to fly them, however, I do agree that the change was a lot. I think the business move would have been to offer 1 free bag instead of 2 and the assigned seating. Me personally, I love the open seating, but that’s me. If someone disagree with the changes, that their right without being attacked and called names. How old are we? I’m not understanding the lack of maturity from grown folks.
