Pingvellir looks like a postcard—green, jagged, ancient. But standing there, between the North American and Eurasian plates, I felt the divide in my chest more than under my feet. The earth literally pulls apart here, a slow, grinding separation you can see and touch. I thought being at the edge of continents would make me feel connected to something bigger. Instead, it just made the distance between things—countries, people, even parts of myself—impossible to ignore. Travel doesn’t always close gaps.
