I had an ADHD runner... and if we were in a place with lots of people... DAMN STRAIGHT I put a leash on him, for HIS SAFETY! I wouldn't use it in the water though, that is going overboard. The mom should be in with the kids. I also can't stress enough, TEACH YOUR KIDS HOW TO SWIM! Lessons, or do it yourself.

Used a leash on my son when he was a toddler in the 80's. He was a runner and it was very necessary, especially in parking lots.

Ok folks, I put a leash on my oldest once. He was just learning to walk and had mastered squat and rise. I used a clothes line for drying our laundry. I would put the clothes in a basket, then put him on top and carry it all outside. I clipped a leash to his belt loops and he was safe while I hung the clothes. And when I was working outside and he fell asleep,I put a blanket down and flipped the playpin over him. He loves to say I put him in a cage. But he did the same thing at a family reunion.

maybe Mom can't swim or is afraid of water so can't get in so is trying her best to let child enjoy water...don't assume.

Personally I don't like the leash for children. If they are special needs then ok but if you teach your children while they are young about the dangers of running off then there shouldn't be a need for them. When my son was 4 we saw a mother and child with a leash and my son asked was the child a puppy because only dogs have leashes. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Needless to say the mother was furious but he actually had a point

here's the deal people have tied kids to apron strings since medieval times. that's where the teen cutting the apron strings came from. as for a leash in the pool HELL NO. you just made your child a massive hazard. that tether can not only get tangled around their legs causing them to drown it can do the same to others. if you are worried about the child get in the pool with them. they should never be out of arms reach in water. keep the tethers for busy locations where your arms are full (while teaching hold the buggy, suitcase, or your purse strap), and for kids that are runners.
