Birmingham’s lost mansion: A century in a snapshot

It's so sad that these beautiful homes are left or destroyed. You would think (possibly), that families of these beautiful homes would do something. Why aren't these homes listed as historical on the registry? That way, they wouldn't or couldn't be torn down. This is so sad.

breaks my heart for this beautiful mansion to be senselessly torn down..

we have all these empty houses and still have homeless veterans on the streets... and it's not just veterans it's our elderly and children and people who don't have any type of support from anyone to help them get back on their feet. how did we let this happen? these beautiful homes could be used to benefit those in need in some type of way. 🤔

No not enough is being done! This mansion should have been restored and NOT demoed to the ground😲😩😠

If someone would step up and turn these big beautiful abandoned homes into shelters for the homeless then things would be better. Life and love would go into these homes once again.

I was fortunate enough to have known this man briefly. Very intelligent and interesting to speak with. I had an opportunity to come to his home. He was, at that time, unable to get around and only lived in a small area of that home. He was very proud of it and invited me to look around. The photos here don’t reflect the timeless grandeur of how he kept the house. It was if time stopped and somehow this home had a story to tell. He had a large portrait of his wife who predeceased him at the top of the stairs. It was as if he kept everything just as she would have wanted it. I’m sorry that he has passed and also that this element of time has been removed. That is a great memory for me.
