Something just fell off my car. Is it still safe to drive it to the shop? 😬
I pulled into my garage yesterday and noticed a few pieces on the floor right behind where my car had been. For months it’s been louder than usual but I kept putting off the service because it wasn’t due yet. Clearly that was not my smartest move. I already booked a service appointment for tomorrow, but I have no idea if it’s safe to drive it there or if I should just call for a tow... It's a piece of a brake pad. It's safe to drive to a shop but I wouldn't be tailgating anyone at 80 mph on the freeway. Just take it easy. As a retired mechanic I've seen people come in with nothing but the metal part left.

that looks like part of a brake rotor, but I've never seen one break apart like that. if that's what it is, your car is not safe to drive, but knock yourself out. you obviously don't care about maintaining your car, because from the look of it, it hasn't been safe to drive for quite some time. shame on you. expect a four-figure repair bill now
