So apparently, Nvidia and AMD just cut a deal with the Trump administration where they have to give 15% of their China chip revenue to the US government in order to get export licenses. Like… that’s wild. Nvidia’s H20 and AMD’s MI308 chips are the ones in question. Basically, they can still sell them to China, but the US gets a big chunk off the top. No word yet on what the government is actually going to do with that money. I get that it’s about controlling tech exports, but this is starting to sound more like a “pay-to-play” tax than a security measure. Wonder how this will affect chip prices for everyone else — because you know that cost is gonna get passed down somewhere.
