A longtime Eugene landmark is getting a new lease on life: the former Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Maxwell Road will soon become a resident-owned co-op village. SquareOne Villages, the nonprofit behind Peace Village Co-Op, is turning the 2.4-acre site into 44 affordable homes for locals earning between $25,600 and $51,350. What’s cool is the church building itself will stay, continuing to host the food pantry, preschool, and community garden. It’s a big step for affordable housing in River Road and keeps the property serving neighbors, just in a new way.
