Hospital Power Outage Turns Deadly

Imagine being in the middle of heart surgery and the power just...goes out. That’s what happened to Jean Dye, 77, who died after her hospital’s operating room lost power for 10 minutes. A coroner says she would’ve survived if the power hadn’t failed. Turns out, staff had to wait for an engineer to fix it because the reset button was in another part of the hospital. I work at a hospital and the culture is getting worse and worse. The Drs and Nurses care but not really. It’s not their loved ones so it’s just another patient. People do not have compassion for others anymore. It’s sad to be in this world. What have we become but strangers to one another?

Most large hospitals have generators that supply the ER and operating rooms. They automatically switch over from city electricity to aux. power.

The article doesn't saywhere this occured by codes in the USA require health care facilities. to have a generator that starts life safety loads in 10 seconds, the codes also mandate testing to ensure functionality. If the hospital doesn't comply the admiistration needs to be held accountable.

I disagree that healthcare workers dont care most were very long hours.I just recently was in the hospital and had the most caring and loving people you want to see I thank God for them. my primary care doctor is one of the most kind and caring doctors she makes sure she hits all bases in your care.

Yes in the US all hospitals have a powerful back up system even years ago when the city of New York had their summer blackouts hospital’s and emergency facilities,police departments all had backup systems.
