The $172K Retirement Shock No One Talks About

I'm 77, no way, got a directive to pull plug on me, all I need is my 7 pills, beer, a hamburger, smokes and leave me alone!!

You only come close to the $172K if you end up in a nursing home. A medigap plan would cover all our of pocket expenses for doctors, hospitals and medicine for about $48,000 over 20 years.

I'm 66, 5'-6", 160lbs. I have no prescriptions. I haven't been sick in over 30 years. I still work running my small engineering business. I'm also in the process of building our forever home. I'll semi-retire in about 18 months when we move into the new house.

My dad had to go into a nursing home after contracting covid was hospitalized for a month and lost memory and the ability to walk. I had to take all his money and write a check for $185,000 ( all his money he had left) minus2,000$ he got to keep.He is allowed to spend 35$ a month from his Socoal security check & the rest goes to the nursing home for his care.

I disagree. Between Medicare , my supplement,dental, vision and medications I am at 900.00 a month. 18.000.00 a year….and if I live as long as my mom 20 more to go it is double that..I am a non- smoker and if I go out probably have 4 glasses of wine a month. I still work have saved a lot. Have income but work to pay for medical…ridiculous!

Sounds like a personal problem.

Retirement is unknown and as you get older everything is scarier their no do overs or time to fix mistakes. Everyone is different with different health plans and issues. No one stop shop way or advice talk to a financial planner other seniors and don’t rely on social media

I have no long term care insurance. Aside from that, everything is covered by my Medicare Advantage plan. Yes, it’s: an HMO, but my plan provides $2700 a year for dental and $190 a quarter for OTC. All of my medications are covered 100%. My pension will cover long term care, if it comes to that.

I’m sure you have all heard the old saying, “The best laid plan of mice and men!” No matter how you plan, work, save, and sacrifice there CAN come a time when the world system can pull the rug from under you! We have no way of knowing the future! But we don’t need to be irresponsible, never have anything to help meet our needs! It irritates me when I hear people say, “I will just let the government take care of me!” The government has “ no money of its own! All it has is money it takes from hard working citizens and eventually we will all be broke!!
