How do I convince some stranger to sell me their Thunderbird that hasn't moved in 8 years?

My dream thunderbird is dying on his lawn. For over eight years, I've been obsessed with this yellow 1962 Thunderbird just sitting and rusting away on a nearby property. It's truly my dream car, even though it's basically a rust bucket under a tree right now. Last weekend, I finally got brave enough to go over there with my dad. We found out the guy we thought owned it was actually a neighbor, so I just left my contact info. No call back yet from the actual owner. Has anyone ever successfully bought a neglected car like this from a stranger? There are people out there sitting on tens of thousands of dollars worth of old stuff like cars and antique tractors that they would rather the elements take them to nothing before they would ever consider selling them. Makes no sense to me.

go to rmv and ask about the car to get the information about it they might be able to do a title search and you might be able to register an insure it and if you are then it's your car All you got to do is pay for it to be registered and insured then they give you a title in the mail

I came across a situation like that. I couldn't find the owner so I got a lawn chair and a cooler and sat down next to the car every chance I got . I even looked in the glove box and found an old registration. so I knew the last name. finally, after a few weeks, I talked to the owner

Offer to let the owner/ seller to drive it after you restore it! That's the business we're in but my husband says this is the last rebuild and will still work on vehicles!

my cousins needed work done on their house and when the workman arrived, he noticed their '50 Dodge truck rusting on the property. He offered to trade materials and his labor for it and they accepted...win-win for both parties.

I knew a guy that had 4 1965 GTOs sitting in his back yard and wouldn't consider selling one of them .15 years later they had blackberries growing out the windows.
